What determines the price of a modafinil tablet
Three things set the price of a modafinil tablet in the UK market:
- The molecule. Modafinil is a racemic mixture; armodafinil contains its R-enantiomer only. Their products and strengths should be compared separately.
- The manufacturer. Sun Pharma (Modalert, Waklert) and HAB Pharma (Modvigil, Artvigil) are the two makers; their packs are priced separately.

Brand pharmaceutical pricing carries the original developer’s research, trials and marketing. Generic competition after patent expiry changes what buyers pay, though the size of that gap varies by market and patent history.
How to compare prices
- Compare per-tablet prices, not pack prices – for the same product and strength, and counting delivery and other charges. Per-tablet cost is the number that tells you which pack is better value.
- Check both manufacturers. Artvigil and Waklert are both armodafinil; the product pages show the same molecule priced differently by manufacturer.
